CATHEDRAL COMPLEX

The Church of the Transfiguration, located under the main church of the Cathedral was constructed to commemorate the Alekseyevsky Convent that had been located on the site of the Cathedral and dislocated to make room for the original Cathedral. This church is designed in the sixteenth century style, since the convent had been established on this site during that period. There are three altars in the church --the Transfiguration in the center and two side chapels in honor of St Alexey, man of God and the Tikhvinskaya Icon of the Mother of God.
