Figurines of Standing Women
Moldova
3rd millenium BC
Clay
H 22.5 cm, 12.5 cm
Vykhvatynsky burial ground
These statuettes are very schematic in form, but the characteristic features of a female body can clearly be seen: the taller figure has a narrow waist and large hips and the other undoubtedly represents a pregnant woman, and both have high breasts. A large nose is indicated by pinching in the clay, the eyes by two holes through the head. Such modelling of figures was typical of the late period of the Tripolye Culture.
