Celebrations of the 300th anniversary of the foundation of the ruling Romanov dynasty were launched in St. Petersburg in February, 1913, and continued into May. On May 15, the imperial family set out on a tour of ancient Russian cities associated with the formation of the Russian state, including Vladimir, Suzdal, Nizhny Novgorod, and Rostov Veliky. On May 24, they arrived in Moscow to complete the celebration. In each city the citizens met their high-ranking guests with the traditional Russian bread-and-salt of welcome and presented them with gifts.
This dish was presented by the citizens of Vladimir on May 16, 1913. The dish shows the city's coat of arms, enamel depictions of the Assumption and St. Dimitry Cathedrals, and the building of the Municipal Duma.
