From War to Peace: Russia - Sweden. 18th century 28 April - 26 September 1999
The exhibition is conducted under the patronage of the President of the Russian Federation Boris Yeltsin and His Majesty Charles XVI Gustav, King of Sweden. In October 1998 a ceremonial opening of two significant Russian and Swedish exhibitions took place; these were Peter the Great and Charles XII (Livrustkammaren, Stokholm) and Catherine the Great and Gustav III (National Museum of Stokholm, Stokholm). The exhibition From War to Peace is the second and last stage of a joint project of two great countries. Representing the most important materials and developing the main themes of the previous exhibitions it includes 800 items spanning the entire 18th century. Five sections of the exhibition containing paintings, sculptures, coins, arms and armour, various pieces of applied art, and historic documents visually reflect the political and war history, scientific and cultural connections of Russia and Sweden in 18th century, the eras of Peter the Great and Charles XII, and Cathrine the Great and Gustav III.
