New Lighting For Rembrandt
On 28 November 1998, completion of work on the projects A New Roof for Rembrandt and New Lighting For Rembrandt was marked by the ceremonial opening of the Rembrandt rooms in the Hermitage. The projects were carried out jointly by the State Hermitage and the Dutch Friends of the Hermitage.
The ceremony was held in the Hermitage Theatre in the presence of His Royal Highness Willem-Alexander, Prince of the Netherlands, elder son of Queen Beatrix.
The director of the Hermitage, Mikhail Piotrovsky, and His Royal Highness Prince Willem-Alexander opened the restored rooms, which are hung with works by the great 17th-century Dutch artist Rembrandt Harmensz. van Rijn and painters of the Rembrandt School.
