The Dining Room

The largest room of the first floor was the Dining Room located above the Entrance Hall. The glazed door of the room leading to the balcony, which affords a splendid view of the Marly Palace and the three diverging avenues, is located on the axis of the palace and so this vista with a perspective view behind the windows can be seen already from one's first steps along the Corridor. In the centre of the room there always stood a huge table occupying most of its space, the walls were decorated with "perspective architectural paintings with large gardens in the foreground", painted by Italian artists and purchased on the order of Peter the Great. The side doors led to the Oak Study and the Library.
