Tip! You may access Advanced Search from any page of the Digital Collection. Simply click the Advanced Search button to begin.
Step 1
-- Select a Category from the pulldown list.
Step 2
-- Select a Type of artwork from the pulldown list. Then click Next.
Tip! If you do not complete Steps 1 and 2, the system will automatically select a Category and Type for you.
Step 3
Tip! Step 3 is optional and not required to complete the Advanced Search.
-- You may now narrow your search by selecting one or more characteristics that apply to the object for which you are searching. The available characteristics will vary by Category and Type, but they may include items like Style, School, Genre, or Theme.
Tip! If you are not sure what to select for a particular characteristic, leave the box blank. For example, if you choose an Artist, then select a Style that does not apply to that Artist, your search may not yield valid results.
-- You may also narrow your search by making selections from one or more indexes, such as Artist, Personage Represented, or Title. For example, the Artist Index allows you to select the artist who created the work for which you are searching.
-- To make a selection from an Index, click an Index button. Choose one of the letters at the top of the Index screen to navigate through the Index alphabetically. When you have found the correct entry, click on it. Once you have selected an entry, the Index will close and the Advanced Search screen will reappear. The appropriate information will be displayed where the button used to be.
-- After you have made all your selections, click Search to begin searching. Click Back to return to Steps 1 and 2 and change your selections. Click Reset to clear all entries on the Advanced Search form (Step 3) and start over.
Tip! If you do not see the results you are looking for, or if you receive too many results, you may need to refine your search. Click Modify Search to alter your choices or New Search to return to the beginning. Go to the Reading Your Results section to learn how to view your results. Tip! If your search is processing too slowly, click the box at the bottom of the Step 3 page that allows you to turn off images.
